Male students on campus during the Depression

Men were admitted as day students, because many residents of Greensboro could not afford to attend school away from home due to the Great Depression. While attending the College, several male students formed a basketball team called the Tom Cats.

The name of the College was changed to the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina.

President Julius I. Foust's title was changed to Vice President of the Consolidated University of North Carolina.

The no-smoking ban was lifted, and students were permitted to smoke in their dorm rooms.
