The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
"Although my formal education was in a biologicaly-focused field - Exercise and Sport Science. I have always wondered how people actually FEEL about moving through their lives in their particular bodies. Roy's work reminds us that all our musings about the world (and bodies) are fictional in some way, and at the same time, all accounts of the world "matter". In this work, Roy clearly articulates the everyday consequences of racial hierarchies, political agendas, and a preference for "reason" over "love". I have always loved to move, and I have always been encouraged to do so by great, everyday, sorts of women - so I choose this book as a reminder that human movement(s) matter."
