Artha Sastra by Kautilya (Translated by R. Shama Sastri)
"There are tens, if not hundreds, of books that I would like to choose as my favorite ones. We, at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, are indeed fortunate to have the Jackson Library that holds a large collection of rare books. For me to go through the process of choosing one book out of so many invaluable books was extremely difficult. So, to settle the matter, I made a truly random drawing from a short list of about 25 books. My selection is the "Artha Sastra" (originally written in Sanskrit by Chanakya, also known as Kautilya, around 300 B.C. and translated by R. Shama Sastri in 1915 and published in 1967). I have a special place for this work as it is the earliest known treatise on accounting, business, and administration"
