A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
I selected the book A thousand splendid suns by Khaled Hosseini. It describes the experiences of several Afghan girls who grow to adulthood during the time before and during the war the people of Afghanistan waged against the Soviet occupation. It recounts horrific experiences that they endured and some of the tragic consequences of these experiences, many that occurred later in their lives. The book reaffirmed my belief that helping young girls get a healthy start in life and a strong education yields a multitude of benefits….for them, their loved ones and for society.
