Eva Hesse
by Lucy Lippard
I first read this little black and white book as an undergraduate art student mired in the difficult process of figuring out who I was as an artist. Lucy Lippard's text revealed an artist who was unlike any I'd ever encountered before--difficult, singular in her time, hugely important to successive generations of artists, and perhaps most importantly to me then--female. I continue to count Eva Hesse as a touchstone in my studio, and I credit Lucy Lippard's book with my first introduction to her work.
