My Early Life, 1874-1904
by Winston S. Churchill
"My Early Life, 1874-1904" was my introduction to the writings of Sir Winston S. Churchill. As a Cicero scholar, I am very interested in rhetoric, oratory, and persuasion. Sir Winston is justly famous for his words, as he "mobilized the English language and sent it off to war." But reading this book gave me an insight into the man behind the speeches and a greater appreciation for ability to mold language to fit his aims. I return to this book often for his insights (and witticisms) about language, culture, history, and politics.
