Nursing: The Finest Art
by M. Patricia Donahue
I chose Nursing: The Finest Art (Donahue,1985)because it illustrates the history of Nursing and the impact on civilization throughout the centuries. The idea for the book came from Teresa Christy, a former colleague at the University of Iowa who spoke at my capping ceremony. When Teresa became ill, her close friend and colleague, Patricia Donahue, completed the book in collaboration with illustrator, Patricia Russac. For me, the book brings together the art and science of Nursing and provides a foundation for Nursing today. I will always be grateful for these wonderful, caring leaders in Nursing whose scholarship continues to guide us in education and practice.
