Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life

I was first introduced to this book in my doctoral program by my advisor. She had us read the "Shitty First Drafts" chapter, which helped to relieve some of my anxiety and perfectionism around my writing. My perfectionistic tendencies hindered me from being able to start the writing process. But, in order to be able to edit your writing, you have to write something down first, so this particular chapter was inspiring to me and let me know that it's ok to not be perfect the first time around.
