This book has been invaluable to me as someone who is interested in the art from the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire. Dr. Colledge wrote this book in the 70s, well before sources were easily accessible via the internet, and I am constantly struck by the breadth of his knowledge of the artifacts from Palmyra and the surrounding area. Plus, the destruction of the city and its monuments in the Syrian civil war makes this book even more important.
