Being Mortal
by Atul Gawande
I chose this book because of my passion for caring for clients and their families facing chronic and terminal illness. There is nothing more humbling than being able to provide nursing care to someone that is nearing the end of life. I believe it is our calling, as hospice and palliative care nurses, to provide care that will allow for the most peaceful and dignified death one can have. It is my belief that we should all live life to the fullest and engage in meaningful relationships that allow us to grow. I believe that each day is a gift and we should not waste a single precious moment we are given. "For human beings, life is meaningful because it is a story. A story has a sense of a whole, and its arc is determined by the significant moments, the ones where something happens." - Gawande
