Harold Schiffman Music Library Circulation Policies
Scores and Books:
All UNCG students, staff and faculty may borrow scores and books from the Harold Schiffman Music Library. The standard loan period for undergraduate students is 30 days. Graduate students and staff have an extended loan period until the end of the semester. The loan period for full-time faculty is the end of each academic year. All other patrons have a 30 day loan period.
Recordings:
All UNCG students, staff and faculty may borrow audio and video recordings from the Harold Schiffman Music Library. The standard loan period for students (undergraduate and graduate) is one week. Staff and non-Music faculty have a loan period of three weeks. The loan period for music faculty is the end of each academic year.
Fines:
No overdue fines are charged on circulating items. However, replacement costs are charged (see Lost/Damaged Fees below).
Closed reserve, shelf reserve, equipment and keys are subject to overdue fines. The overdue fines are $1.00 for the first hour or any portion thereof, and $.50 for each additional hour with no grace period. There is no maximum reserve/equipment/key fine limit! Borrowing privileges for UNCG students are blocked when the amount reaches $150.00.
Overdue fines are automatically sent to the Cashier’s Office. All University Libraries fines must be paid electronically through UNCGenie or in person at the Cashier’s Office in Mossman Building. Friends of the Library and other patrons using the library consortium agreement must pay fines at Jackson Library. Note: Friends of the Library and patrons using the consortium agreement cannot check out items if they have outstanding fines.
Renewals:
Materials may be renewed unless they have been recalled by another library patron or are needed for reserve. Library materials may be renewed electronically through the Online Catalog with the patron’s UNCG ID number. Patrons are limited to four electronic renewals per item, after which items must be brought to the Harold Schiffman Music Library for renewal. Patrons may bring items to the Desk for renewal at any time in lieu of online renewal. Note: Patrons using the consortium agreement cannot renew items online.
Lost/Damaged Fees:
Replacement costs are charged when items are returned or renewed after a specified amount of time after their due date (8 days for Course Reserves, DVDs, Tech Lending and AV Equipment; 40 days for books or scores ), declared lost by the borrower, or damaged beyond repair. Each item billed will also include a $20 processing fee. Rather than paying replacement costs, lost and damaged items may be replaced for up to 6 months after the due date. Replacements must be pre-approved by library staff.
Charges for a damaged item will be assessed on an individual case basis.
Food is allowed, please clean up after yourselves. Drinks are allowed in secure containers. Please silence your cell phone while in the Harold Schiffman Music Library. Take your phone calls outside.
