Scholarly Communication at UNCG

Guide to Scholarly Communication

  • Open Access Publishing Fund:
Sponsored by the University Libraries and Office of Research and Economic Development, this fund helps to defray author processing fees and encourages the publication of faculty and graduate student scholarship in Open Access journals.
  • NC DOCKS: UNCG's Institutional Repository:
Operated by the University Libraries, UNCG's Institutional Repository is an open-access database for collecting, preserving, and disseminating the scholarly and creative works of UNCG's faculty and students free of charge over the Internet.
  • Open Journal Systems (OJS):
The University Libraries work with faculty who want to start journals. We offer software support and training. Seven journals are currently being published at UNCG.
  • Author Rights and Copyright:
Before you publish, understand your rights. We offer tools to help secure your rights to your published works for teaching, collaborating, and your future research.
  • Research Data Management:
The University Libraries provides guidance on effective research data management, including data management plan creation and archiving your data. The effective management of your data ensures that your research is secure, promotes the reuse of your data by other researchers, and assures compliance with federal guidelines.
  • Open Educational Resources:
Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning and research materials in any medium that reside in the public domain and have been released under an open license that permits access, use, repurposing, reuse and redistribution by others with no or limited restrictions (Atkins, Brown & Hammond, 2007).
  • NIH Open Access Policy & PubMed Central:
The purpose of the NIH Public Access Policy on Enhancing Public Access to NIH-Funded Research is to establish a permanent archive of NIH-funded research publications. As of April 7, 2008, the policy is mandatory for all peer-reviewed journal articles arising from grants (signed on or after October 1, 2007).
